More than 100 Iraqi-Americans gathered at the governor's residence in Lincoln Sunday afternoon, calling on the U.S. government to help their family and friends in northern Iraq and Syria.

The crowd, who had marched through downtown Lincoln earlier, were met by police and Nebraska State Patrol troopers. The Nebraska Capitol across the street was temporarily closed and locked.

Two people were arrested for allegedly attacking officers. No injuries were reported.

The protesters were pleading for help for Yazidis, a religious minority group. Militants with the Islamic State extremist group seized two small towns in northern Iraq on Sunday after driving out Kurdish security forces.
