Trusted Renters Turn Into Burglars

Liset Hernandez is in shock as she walks through her rental property. In February, she decided to rent out the place she once called home to a family she thought she could trust.

She told WOWT 6 News, everything seemed to be going well, until the beginning of August.

"We just drove by, out of the blue, and we see the windows with nothing, no blinds, no curtains, nothing. I told my 16 year old, just take a peek, check, don't be too rude, just take a peek. And sure be it, empty," said Hernandez.

The home wasn't just empty, but stripped.

"They took the bunk beds from this room, and the screens, the light fixtures," said Hernandez.

From small things throughout the home like the smoke alarms, to big things like the dishwasher, nothing went untouched.

Hernandez said at first she felt cheated.

"My mother always told me that faces we see, and hearts we don't know," said Hernandez.

But then she said she turned to her faith and to her bible.

"I was mad at myself, and I said Liset you need to stop, that's it I am going to be mean. And I opened it, and it said 'Don't stop being kind to others, because you never know if you are helping a hidden angel from God.' And since then I told myself, I am not going to stop being who I am," said Hernandez.

So she's staying positive and already re-renting the home to a family that was formerly homeless.
