A Humphrey man has been sentenced to a year in the county jail for a collision that killed another driver in eastern Nebraska.
The Columbus Telegram says a Platte County district judge sentenced 63-year-old Lee Tepoel on Thursday for motor vehicular homicide. Tepoel pleaded no contest to the charge.
Authorities say Tepoel knew the brakes were bad on his 1976 utility truck and was using a hand brake for vehicle control when his truck hit a pickup in April 2011.
Prosecutors say Tepoel failed to stop at a stop sign at a rural intersection near Lindsay and hit a pickup driven by 31-year-old Adam Jarecki, of Newman Grove. Jarecki died at the scene.
