Treynor Teacher to Stand Trial

A Treynor, Iowa teacher will stand trial accused of having inappropriate contact with former students.

Michael Travis was working as a fifth-grade teacher and assistant softball coach before being placed on administrative leave.

In late April, the Treynor School Board received two letters written by former students accusing Travis of having inappropriate contact with them while they attended Treynor High School. The County Attorney and Sheriff were notified.

Through the course of the investigation, the Sheriff's Department talked with three victims. One victim is now 29-years-old and the alleged crime falls outside the statute of limitations. The other two victims are now 22 and 27.

Travis is accused of two counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee, which is a felony.

No trial date has been set.
