Milllions of people will be taking to the skies and the road this week. Much of the madness will start on Wednesday, one of the busiest travel days of the year.

And even busier on the roads. Roughtly 42.2% of holiday travelers will be hitting the road this Thanksgiving.

AAA officials say to keep a few travel tips in mind as you head out:

--Keep your gas tank full
--Let others know your destination, route and arrival time
--Check tires for good tread and proper pressure
--Keep an emergency roadside kit in your trunk complete with flares
--Keep your cellphone charged and keep a cellphone charger in your vehicle.

You can find more travel tips on AAA's website:

Travelers leaving from Eppley Airfield say they're not bothered by the longer than usual lines and stricter TSA regulations.

"It's just for our safety, said Pam Fisher of Omaha, I see no problem with it."

The news TSA screenings may not be offending many here in the metro, but many other travelers affected at some 70 airports nationwide see it as an inconvenience. Some groups are even encouraging passengers to opt out of the scanners during this busy holiday week. They say it will force the TSA to do more pat downs and slow down the security check-points.

TSA officials say the scans and searches will continue though. If you set off a metal detector or body scanner, or if you decline to go through the body scanner, you're more likely to be thoroughly searched.
Fewer than 3 percent of all passengers will be subjected to a standard pat down.

Remember, if you are flying, following the TSA guidelines and rules will save a lot of headaches at those security checks. Makes sure those liquids are kept to 3 ounces, otherwise, you'll lose it or be forced to check it. Baby bottles and some medications are allowed exceptions.
A complete list of acceptable carry on items and traveling strategies can be found on the TSA website:
