A toddler was pulled to safety after nearly drowning in a Carter Lake swimming pool Sunday afternoon.
The grandfather of the 1-year-old boy said the family was having a birthday party with more than a dozen children at the back yard pool near North 12th Street and Avenue P. Around 3 p.m., a family member spotted the boy floating in the water.
"I come running and I start doing mouth-to-mouth, water starts to spit up and his eyes open up but he's not there yet because it wasn't good, his lips were blue and then my uncle comes over and starts really pumping on his diaphragm and all the water comes up and he starts crying and it all happened within a minute," said grandfather Brian Calabretto.
