Nebraska’s law permitting residents to hold a permit to carry a conceal handgun went into effect January 2007. The permits are good for five years. With that in mind, the Nebraska State Patrol is reminding those who were first in line five years ago that they will have to renew their permit.
The cost for renewing a permit is $50. If the permit is renewed before it expires, the permit holder will not be required to retake a certified training course. In a statement issued to the media, Colonel David Sankey of the NSP said, “Individuals receiving permits that first year are coming up for renewal. We want to save them time and money by making sure they are aware they can renew their permit.”
Since 2007, NSP has issued 15,432 conceal carry permits. Of those, 3,427 were issued within the first year so they will soon expire.
