The 45th AppleJack Festival begins Friday in Nebraska City, celebrating the fruit used in everything from baking to bobbing.
The festival features a car show, arts and crafts fairs, pancake feed, parade, petting zoo, plenty of food vendors and apple picking.
Apple season normally runs through late October. Almost two dozen varieties are harvested in the state.
Apples have been grown in Nebraska since the 1800s. Nebraska City is the apple capital of the state with its orchards attracting day-trippers eager to load up on the savory fruit for making cider, covering with caramel, baking pies or just eating as a snack.
The festival runs through Sunday. Click here for more information.
