Stocks rallied on the second day of trading after Sandy, plus the Federal Trade Commission takes aim at Google. Here's the Thursday Bloomberg After The Bell Report from the New York Stock Exchange.

Day two of the stock exchange operating on power from generators in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and stocks rallied. Benchmark indexes had their biggest gains in seven weeks after better than expected reports on employment and manufacturing, and consumer confidence climbed in October to a more than four-year high. Investors now wait for Friday’s report on October jobs.

Meantime, Amazon opened its Black Friday deals store Thursday, offering discounts and free shipping on select items. You can go to amazon.com/blackfriday to check it out.

The Federal Trade Commission's staff told commissioners that Google should be sued by the FTC for trying to block competitors like Apple and Microsoft access to key smartphone technology patents, which violates the antitrust law. That's according to people familiar with the situation. A final decision on that recommendation is not likely until after the presidential election.
