Sprint is looking into making a counter offer for MetroPCS, evaluating if it can top Deutsche Telekom’s bid to combine it with T-Mobile. Sprint is currently crunching the numbers and holding talks with its advisers to see if it can make a higher offer, that's according to sources familiar with the matter.

Meantime, Dish is dropping plans to sell streaming devices in Blockbuster stores.

Stocks rose for a fourth day in a row after reports on jobless claims and factory orders came in better than expected.

U.S. authorities charged 91 people with Medicare fraud in a nationwide crackdown. The alleged schemes could amount to over $400 million in false billing.

Starbucks’ CEO expects to open a thousand new stores in the U.S. in the next five years. In an interview, he said that could mean 20,000 new jobs. Starbucks also says an application that allows customers to tip their baristas digitally will be added to its mobile payment app starting next summer.
