With money being tight everywhere, it's always good to look for the best deal possible.
Thrift stores have become a popular option.
Finding quality merchandise is also important.
One outlet in Council Bluffs donates all of their proceeds to help women in need.
Toddy Stander knows a deal when she sees one.
She's a regular at Sequels Thrift Store just east of the Iowa School for the Deaf on Highway 92.
The thrift store is packed full of clothes for everyone.
Full of great deals.
"I found it to be a wonderful store," Stander said. "I really like it because everything's so nice and clean. They've got quality merchandise. They never put anything out that's cracked or got a spot on it."
Most of the items are just a buck or two.
The money taken in here helps women in need.
"We have an after care program that's girls getting out of incarceration," Sequels Volunteer Jacki Hargis said. "They need help getting places to live and back on their feet."
The workers are all volunteers.
They don't put anything on the shelves they wouldn't buy themselves.
They also get a sense of fulfillment by helping women who are going through tough times.
Cynthia Sisser volunteers here along with her mom and daughter.
"I get to spend five hours of concentrated time with my daughter," Sisser said. "She likes being here and she loves interacting with the people."
Word of mouth spreads news of the deals at sequels.
Toddy Stander says in this day and age, a good deal is always a great find.
"You've got to watch your money," she said.
Sequels has become so successful that a second store recently opened on North 7th St. in Council Bluffs.
About 25 women volunteer their time at the stores.
