Two women and one man were hospitalized after a head-on crash along Highway 75 north of Wiles Road near Plattsmouth Saturday night. As of Monday, all three remain in the hospital.
The Cass County Sheriff's Department said 23-year-old Tyler Westerfield of Johnson, Nebraska was driving northbound in the southbound lane when he approached an oncoming car driven by 21-year-old Natasha Rice of Omaha around 9 p.m. Rice swerved as Westerfield swerved and they collided head-on.
The Jaws of Life were needed to free Westerfield from his vehicle. He and Rice were taken by medical helicopter to Alegent Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. A passenger in Rice's car, 22-year-old Samantha Rowell of Bellevue, was taken to CUMC by ambulance. On Monday morning, Rowell remained in critical condition, while Westerfield and Rice had been upgraded to fair.
