Threatening Calls: Claim Your Money Or Go To Jail

Julie Brandt says a recent phone call left her a little shaken.

Brandt says, "It was a gentleman named John Watson and he said it was a government grant or something like that, $6000 waiting in my name."

Brandt says the caller knew her address, her middle name, and knew she didn't have a criminal record.

As the phone call went on, he started phishing for her credit card number.

When she refused, the threats began.

Brandt says, "You have to call back otherwise you can't have this money and you could go to jail if you don't take this money."

Julie isn't the only one this unidentified caller is threatening. We did some digging and found several complaints against the number on 800notes.com-a scam call reporting website.

One recipient says she was getting calls at 4:30 a.m.

Another recipient says the caller got angry and threatened him with violence.

We turned the tables and tried calling "John Watson" back at (589) 223-8911. It says it is not a working number.

Julie hung up on the threatening caller-and hopes by sharing her story he won't be able to lure in anyone else.

Brandt says, "If you tell someone who makes $10 and hour like I do that they have $6000 waiting, of course most people are going to jump at that."
