Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium hit an all-time attendance record this year and as a thank you to customers, all visitors got in free on Sunday.
Thousands decided to take advantage of the free day. Zoo officials credit a new exhibit, a remodel of the aquarium and good weather this year as to why they broke the attendance record.
A family of six came from Lincoln. “That’s one of the reasons that we take advantage of all the free things that we can in order to make sure that the kids have fun stuff to do on days like today," said Ebony Keys.
“I like to go to the zoo and one of my favorite exhibits is the butterfly," said Xavier Keys.
So far this year the zoo and aquarium has had over 1.6 million visitors. That broke the previous all-time record. They are projecting by the end of the year to hit 1.7 visitors if the weather cooperates.
