Thieves are now targeting vehicles, looking to steal catalytic converters. Channel 6 News talked with one victim who says buying a new part is going to cost him.
Every weekday, Jay Jasinski drives his truck from his home in La Vista to work near 120th and Dodge. He parks it there until the end of the workday. Well on Thursday, after Jasinski started his engine, he got quite a surprise.
“The exhaust was really loud.” He realized something was wrong. “They cut it back here and there and on the other side.” Two catalytic converters were stolen from underneath his truck. He’s the second person at his workplace to have this happen.
Jasinski said the factory parts will cost him around $3,900 and that’s not including labor at an auto shop. “It’s just kind of irritating with it being the holiday season and people having to put more money out."
The thief will get around $150 to $200 for each part at a scrap yard.
Jasinski said now he will watch out for his truck throughout the day. He warns others to be cautious.
