In Nebraska, a store clerk cannot sell alcohol after 1 a.m., but that didn't stop customers at three Bellevue stores.
It was 1:17 a.m. on a Saturday when three men walked into a Kwik Shop. Moments later, they grabbed bottles of liquor, including Captain Morgan rum and Jose Cuervo tequila, along with three cases of beer. The store clerk said she couldn't sell the alcohol because it was after 1 a.m. They didn't care and didn't plan on paying for it anyway.
“They just ignored her and continued taking the liquor,” said BPD Detective Fran Gallo. “They casually walked out with the alcohol and left."
A police officer spotted a suspicious car, but he was busy heading to a CVS pharmacy because the same thing happened there. “He wanted to make a stop on it because it was suspicious, but because he was already on a call he continued on and within 15 seconds he got the call that they just did the same thing at the Kwik Shop,” said Gallo.
Investigators chased the men in a maroon car, but speeds reached over 100 mph. It was too dangerous so the pursuit was called off. Not only did the three men hit the Kwik Shop and CVS pharmacy, but two hours earlier they targeted the No Frills liquor department. “They got a lot of alcohol in a short amount of time from these three stores,” said Gallo.
Anyone with information about the robberies or suspects is asked to call Sarpy County Crime Stoppers at 402-592-STOP or 402-592-7867.
