Thieves Grab Running Vehicle

An Omaha woman was warming her car up Tuesday morning before taking her children to school when a couple of car thieves moved in.

The engine of the SUV was running and the thieves who stole it took off just as police arrived.

They crashed, slamming into a bridge near 24th and Saratoga. Air bags deployed.

The driver and the passenger ran but police managed to track down and arrest the driver.

Omaha Police Lieutenant Mike McGee said, “We repeatedly encourage people not to leave their vehicles running unattended and this is an example of why we encourage people not to do this. I know it's cold, you want to warm your car up but we see this repeatedly."

The driver was arrested. He’s identified as 18-year-old Percy Eubanks and he faces several charges including Theft by Receiving.

The person with Eubanks escaped.
