Apparently confident other good deeds will outweigh any crimes they commit, Heartland thieves hit St. Cecilia Cathedral.
Stolen were two large decorative downspouts valued at $500 a piece. The downspouts are large, ornamental and extremely tempting for scrap metal thieves.
They should also be difficult to scrap in their original form. Parishioners hope that whoever took the downspouts will have a change of heart and return them.
Dan Miller says, "I hope that it weighs heavily on their conscience for stealing from a church. It's a bad thing when you have to steal from such a beautiful place like this or any church for that matter."
It is not the first time thieves have hit the Cathedral. In the past they have cut the handrails from next to steps as well as some things from inside the Cathedral.
