Theft Suspect Fleeing Police Killed In Crash
A driver who led police on a car chase that ended with a crash has died. The Polk County Sheriff's Department says 29-year-old Melissa Sue Toillion of Des Moines died at the scene in Pleasant Hill Sunday morning.
The chase began at 1:30 a.m. when Toillion failed to stop her vehicle for law enforcement. The vehicle later landed on its side on the front yard of a house. Her passenger, 22-year-old Justin Formaro of Des Moines, was seriously injured. They were suspected of stealing from a convenience store before the accident.
Police say there was additional damage to neighboring yards and at least one utility pole.
