The residents of Immanuel Campus put on a production of The Music Man Monday night and it was a hit.
With a whistle blast from drum major Millie Hansen (age 95), the Immanuel Village Community Room turned into a little bit of Broadway as 20 residents of the complex brought the Meredith Wilson classic to life. The orchestra consisted of a piano, tuba and 20 kazoos, possibly a first.
Many of these people were professional musicians before retiring and the talent wasn't hard to see. Erna Clanton, who retired as volunteer music director at the age of 90, said," We are 80, 90 years old, most of us, so you think we're sitting in our chair, we're not, we're out making music. It gives us great joy."
