The Bank of the West Celebrates America concert kicks off Friday night at Memorial Park. Music will start at 6:00 p.m. featuring Pat Benetar and Loverboy. Then at 10:00 p.m. a fireworks finale show will light up the sky.
There are no seats, so fans need to pick a spot in the grass. Only blankets are allowed. Tarps and stakes are prohibited.
As for food and drink, there will be items to purchase. Outside food and drink are allowed; however, alcoholic beverages and glass containers are prohibited.
There will be parking, but with thousands coming to the event, organizers are urging people to carpool. Carpooling to Bank of the West Celebrates America is encouraged. The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) will allow people attending the event to use its parking facilities. UNO’s regular lots and the multi-level parking garage will be available after 4 p.m. on that day. Those parking at UNO should use the pedestrian overpass when crossing Dodge Street.
To ease traffic flow in the neighborhoods near the park, streets north of Underwood Avenue to Western Avenue from Happy Hollow to 66th Street and streets from Western Avenue north to Hamilton Street from 54th Street to 58th Street will be designated one way between 8 a.m. and the end of the event. Parking will be allowed only on the east side of the streets in this area. This is a safety precaution to ensure that the city’s fire and rescue equipment can get through if necessary.
