The Nebraska State Patrol says it seized 88 pounds of marijuana along Interstate 80 during the week involving the Thanksgiving holiday. Two people were arrested in separate cases.
The state patrol says just before 9pm Sunday, a trooper stopped a vehicle in Hall County for traveling too close. A state patrol canine alerted to the odor of drugs coming from the rear of the westbound vehicle. A search led to the discovery of 25 pounds of marijuana. The driver, 39-year old Robert D. Penn, Jr. of Omaha was arrested for possessing marijuana with intent to deliver.
The other case was reported Tuesday, November 22. The state patrol says 32-year old John A. Ibarra of Willits, California was pulled over near Kearney for speeding about 6:30pm. The report says the trooper had probable cause to search the eastbound pickup. A search led to the seizure of 63 pounds of marijuana. Ibarra was also arrested for possessing marijuana with intent to deliver.
