It was a scary moment for neighbors near 49th and P streets around six o'clock Tuesday evening. They saw smoke coming from a house where a family with children lives. Not taking any chances, one neighbor says he broke down the door.

"We didn't know what was going on. We went to the back and couldn't open the glass door. You could see flames and smoke and I busted down the front door to make sure no one was in there; and thank God no one was in there,” Marcos Kane said.

The family was not home at the time of the fire, but arrived at the scene shortly after it was put out.

Crews were able to get the fire under control after just a few minutes. No word on what may have caused the blaze.
