Three teenagers are in custody after allegedly forcing their way into an Omaha home Wednesday night.

It happened just before 9 p.m. near 37th and Kansas streets. Family members believe they were targeted and think at least one of the suspects cased their place before the attack.

Sixty-two-year-old Darold Sterner answered a knock at the door, thinking it was his son. “So I open the door and the next thing I know there is a pistol on my head and then another one and another one and I kind of fell on the couch and he hit me again and I kind of lost count and he goes, get on the floor, cover up your face, get on the floor."

While Darold was on the flood bleeding, the teen beating him took money from his pocket. Lori Thompson tried to stop the assault. “I was like, just give them the money, just give them the money and he wouldn't. They beat him down on the floor, blood everywhere."

Once the three got what they wanted they took off. The Sterners immediately called 911 as soon as they knew they were safe and police arrested Lorenzo Sawyer, Carnel Stubblefield and Fred Wallace-Frazier, all 18, in the area of 42nd and Fontenelle. Officers spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the one used in the home invasion. Police said items stolen from the victims were found inside.

Darold isn’t sure if he could identify the suspects. "The one on top, the other two, I'm not sure, but the one on top is the one that whipped me, I'm pretty sure. Do you think so, momma?"

"I think it was the second one,” said Jodi Sterner.

The Sterners have lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and have never had any trouble until recently. Now, they are planning to move as soon as possible.
