A teenaged girl is in the hospital recovering after crashing her car into an embankment on Sunday and being stranded in the bitter cold for hours. She spoke to WOWT 6 News about the terrifying ordeal.

17-year-old Taylor Peatrowsky drives down Elmtree Road near 310th Street in Treynor, Iowa often, but on Sunday morning while heading to work the unimaginable happened.

She says she was taking a drink of water when she went off the road into a snowy field. She went right over an embankment and landed on the other side. The car flipped and was partly in a creek.

Because the area is so remote no one saw what happened. Her parents realized something was wrong when she didn’t show up for work and they began to worry. Her stepdad Shawn Gillespie said, “One, where is she? Is she safe? Was she in an accident? Has she been taken?”

They began to search and put a post on Facebook asking the community to be on the lookout. Meanwhile Taylor was still trapped.

Taylor said, “I remember crawling out, but I knew something was wrong with this leg because it hurt so bad to move it. I tried to look for my phone to call someone, but I couldn’t.”

She tried yelling for help but the road is so remote no one heard her. Her injuries were so bad she couldn't make it back up the embankment.

She was stranded for more than three hours. She said, "It just felt so long and I was scared that no one would ever find me."

Not to mention she was freezing. "I found a dry sweatshirt in my car and put it over my arms and legs and just clenched my hands together to try to keep blood moving,” said Taylor.

Then a miracle happened. Her neighbor found her. “The man that found me knew exactly where I was right away and he had no idea why it just came to him and he drove right to the spot and found me, so I definitely think someone was watching over me,” said Taylor.

“We’re just thankful to God and thankful that he was able to find her,” said Gillespie.

Taylor will need surgery and several months of recovery. She would like to thank the community for all their prayers and support.

Taylor said she can’t wait to get back on her feet and is disappointed that she will have to miss the Miley Cyrus concert on Thursday. Her family is starting a twitter campaign to try and get Miley to visit her in the hospital.
