Omaha police reports indicate a technician working for CenturyLink discovered the theft of 400 feet of copper telephone wire from an open field. It was not the first time it happened.
The wire was attached to utility poles in the area of 49th and Browne Street. The technician told police the theft likely happened between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. on June 26. He indicated a similar theft had happened May 30th, but he was not sure it had been reported to police.
The value of the 400 feet of copper wire was reported as $7,000 to CenturyLink. Its value as scrap metal to the thief or thieves is probably much less.
