Executives at McDonald’s USA have unveiled a new plan for obtaining pork products. By the year 2022, the giant restaurant chain will only buy pork from farmers and other sources that do not use gestation stalls for pregnant sows.
Animal rights groups have called the small stalls inhumane.
That gives McDonald’s’ suppliers a decade to change. During that time, the company says it will work with producers and suppliers to phase at gestational stalls and develop tracking systems.
You might remember, the chain announces its plan to phase out the gestation stalls. This announcement makes it clear that it only applies to McDonald’s businesses in the United States.
