There was nothing routine about a traffic stop in Omaha Monday evening. Officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana as they approached the vehicle near 45th and Ohio. Then the situation became even more serious.
The officers say a passenger bolted from the car and ran. As officers followed, they report seeing the man reaching into his waistband. An officer deployed a taser on the man and arrested him.
While the man was being apprehended, officers noticed a gun fell out of his waistband. The suspect, 25-year old Leroy Scott, was booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm and obstructing an officer.
The driver, 30-year old Terrance Dean, was booked for driving with a suspended license and for allowing an open container in his vehicle.
It wasn’t Dean who had possession of the open container. Police say it was passenger 28-year old Jackson Williams. Williams was given a citation for the violation.
Another passenger, 27-year-old Tracy Smith, was cited for possessing less than an ounce of marijuana.
