The transition begins in the mayor's office. Mayor Jim Suttle gave Mayor-elect Jean Stothert a tour on Monday afternoon.
She says her first order of business is planning the 2014 budget. Her city council experience, she says, helped prepare her for the challenge.
"I'm familiar with the process, I'm just getting into it a little bit earlier now this year and you know with that my 11 years on the school board too. I mean I've been through 11 previous years with a multi-million dollar budget."
Stothert named Omaha attorney and former Nebraska Republican Party chair David Kramer to lead the transition team.
She will be sworn in June 10. The budget goes to the printer on July 1.
