Prom season is here and for a girl that means it’s time to coordinate the perfect dress, hair and makeup, but add those all up and it can be expensive. Some Millard West High School students wanted to help. They organized a special event Saturday called “Cinderella’s Closet.”
It’s every girl’s dream, a room filled with prom dresses, from sparkly and colorful to elegant black and white. The best part is they’re all for free.
Tiffany Isham said, “We were searching for a dress and we couldn't find any. There were some, but they cost a lot, so we saw this and came here."
Isham was one of the many to check out the event at 24th and Leavenworth. She was able to find the perfect dress for her upcoming dance and says it will really help her family’s budget.
Chanel Hill decided to bring her two nieces. “I was thinking that saves us about $200 to $300 on a dress, so it worked out really well and the dress is like brand new.”
The Millard West students with the National Honor society said they wanted every girl to be able to have that “Cinderella” moment.
Kristen Hinz said, “Every girl for prom they want to feel good about themselves and have a dress and their nails done and everything and we just thought that if we came together and were about to give someone their dream dress for prom then it would just make all the difference."
The dresses were donated. Bins were set up at local high schools and the Nebraska Furniture Mart. Because of the generosity of the community many girls walked away feeling like a princess.
There were some dresses left over, so organizers are planning another event on Saturday, April 5th. It will again be held at Together Inc. at 24th and Leavenworth from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
WOWT is a proud sponsor of the event.
