Got Your 6 to Honor Nebraska's Military

A group of high school students plans to show their appreciation for our military, with an upcoming candlelight vigil.

The Got Your Six event takes place at 6 pm., Sunday, November 10th . The name for the national movement comes from a military term referencing directions on a clock face. "Six" would be behind a person. And "I have got your six," means that they have got your back.

"Nebraska’s Got Your 6" was created by Bellevue West High School DECA members Jaycee Stephens, Kate Radosta and Cole Patterson.

The effort is part of an annual project executed by senior DECA members as they compete with their peers on a state level and on a national level.

Students and others will gather on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Omaha. A moment of silence will honor those who have served and who continue to serve in the armed forces.

The goal, organizers say, is to raise awareness of military efforts and to show appreciation for the men and women who've made personal sacrifices in the name of freedom.

They invite the public to come out for military members as well as supporting organizations. Students will provide hot chocolate and they will be accepting donations at the bridge in exchange for candies.
