Students at Skutt Catholic High School have learned just how tough it was to move across the Great Plains into the west years ago.
The students set up structures like the pioneers did as they migrated to the west through the various trails.
Juniors at the school set up some 40 structures to recreate the 1840s and the 1850s. They learned how rough it was to deal with the elements.
Marty Plum said, "When they were lighting their campfire, they had to shield the wind, make adjustments to their structures on the fly, so they weren't gettting rained-on on the inside. And so, a lot of life lessons. We're pretty lucky we have what we have today and our life is pretty easy compared to life in the1840s and 1850s."
This is the 20th year the school has particicpated in this exercise.
