Unruly Student With Squirt Gun Arrested

Omaha police were called to help an off-duty officer take a college student into custody Thursday morning after the student wrestled with the officer, trying to take back his squirt gun.

Police said 20-year-old DaVontia Henderson was carrying a large squirt gun filled with an unknown liquid and intended to shoot students with it at Wright Career College in the Frederick Square shopping center near South 84th Street and West Center Road.

An officer working off-duty at the school confronted Henderson just before 11:30 a.m., took the gun away and asked him to leave. Henderson refused and attempted to grab the squirt gun, prompting the physical altercation. College staff called 911 and the call went out for back up.

Other officers arrived and put Henderson into a cruiser. Once in the back, he allegedly began kicking the door in an attempt to get out. Henderson was removed from the cruiser and allegedly spit and tried to bite an officer.

He was taken to Douglas County Corrections and faces charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing.
