Teenager caught with weapon at an area school. A 17-year-old male was taken to the Sarpy County Juvenile Detention Center after he was found to be in possession of a knife and alcohol at Plattsmouth High School at the beginning of the school day Tuesday.
The Cassgram reports Plattsmouth Police were called to the high school office about 8am and were asked to respond immediately.
“There was no threat,” said Plattsmouth Police Chief Steve Rathman who said it wasn’t a large knife but measured long enough to justify a citation under Nebraska’s concealed weapon laws. He said it was a small bottle of alcohol. The knife and alcohol were brought into the school in a backpack.
Rathman said the teen is on probation and is subject to contact and search. Upon discovery of the items the police department contacted the probation office and the detention order was issued.
Plattsmouth School Superintendent Dr. Rich Hasty said there were measures taken to ensure the safety of students and staff. As to the student’s future in the district, Dr. Hasty said there will be an investigation that will also try to determine intent. He said decisions on these matters are then made on the evidence in each specific situation.
