Strong Winds Cause Damage

Strong winds caused damage to a handful of homes in the metro Tuesday night.

South of Old Towne Bellevue near 29th Avenue and Hancock, the Dillon family came home to a tree that had fallen on their home. Branches could be seen coming through a bedroom and bathroom ceiling.

"I was so scared when a saw that tree on our home," said Natalie Dillon.

Chainsaws and a backhoe were already in use to get the tree out of the way.

Down the road, neighbors watched as a nearby machinery shed from a business was launched and carried like a parachute by the winds.

Jane Barnett watched from her window. "A wave of aluminum was coming right at us."

The structure fell between neighbors.

Many homeowners lost power Tuesday evening. At one point, 3,000 OPPD customers were without electricity in the metro.

The strong winds seemed to follow along Hwy 370 through Sarpy County.
