The official start of Omaha Diversity Week took place in the Mutual of Omaha Dome Monday evening.
An estimated crowd of 390 people were on hand for the reception that featured guest speaker, Joaquin Zihuatanejo, an acclaimed poet and award-winning teacher.
WOWT 6 News Anchor Jackie Ochoa served as emcee for the event Monday evening.
The Mission of Omaha Diversity Week is to ensure that Omaha is an inclusive community which values diversity and develops infrastructures that embrace cultural differences and further, is in full partnership with the employers’ efforts to attract and retain diverse talent for business success and community engagement.
A special event is scheduled for each day through the remainder of the week including a job fair on Thursday that will include more than 60 companies.
