String of Burglaries Put Omaha Neighborhood On Edge

A string of burglaries puts a neighborhood on edge after five break-ins in just two weeks.

Nicole Smith was one of the victims, she said the break-in left her with a feeling that's hard to shake.

"Just kind of a creepy, freaky feeling. Just knowing someone has been in your house," shudders Smith.

The burglaries in the Willowood neighborhood all happened within four blocks.

The police reports show that in each case the burglars got in the same way by forcing open and coming through the front door.

Once inside the homes, similar items were taken: electronics and jewelry.

Smith said this break-in was a first for her.

"I've never had any problems before. It's a nice neighborhood. So, I guess, I know it can happen anywhere," said Smith.

None of the burglaries happened at night. Most occurred when people were at work.

Victims said it seemed like the crooks left in a hurry.

"My garage was open, my front door was open, and the door into my house from the garage was open," said Smith.

She said she has already made some changes, one of those is a new security system.

Police are asking everyone in this neighborhood to call 911 for any suspicious activity, especially if someone comes knocking at the door for an unusual reason.
