Street Collapse After Truck Passes

A section of street caved in just after a dump truck loaded with dirt passed over it Tuesday afternoon. The back wheels of the truck briefly sank but the driver was able to pulled ahead and out of danger at 174th & Valley in southwest Omaha.

Kelly Hulse said, "I heard a noise and looked in the mirror. I saw that a tire had blown out so I hit the brakes real quick. I got out, looked and the road was gone."

Hulse was delivering dirt to a million dollar home under construction. Ken Oster is the builder. "I called 911 and said we need a police cruiser and public works to barricade the street."

Omaha Public Works Officials speculate the storm sewer was defective causing the undermining of the street. The sink hole was about 25 feet long and 6-8 feet deep.

Phil Potaskey owns the dump truck. He said two tires and rims had to be replaced. The axle is being checked out.

Total amount of damage so far is about $1,000.

His driver was not injured.

Kelly Hulse said he's lucky. "I'm going to play the lottery."
