Strange behavior delayed the sentencing of a Lincoln man convicted of paying a Nebraska mother to let him have sex with her 14-year-old daughter.

Forty-one-year-old Shad Chandler was expected to be sentenced in Lancaster County Court Tuesday morning. Instead, a concerned Judge Karen Flowers continued the hearing because of his odd behavior.

Judge Flowers stopped the hearing when Chandler appeared to swallow a tissue. He appeared to be confused about why he was in court.

He was arrested at his Lincoln home nearly a year ago for first degree sexual assault of a child.

The charges is in connection with a child prostitution case out of Buffalo county.

The Nebraska State Patrol says a 35-year-old mother allowed Chandler to have sex with her 14-year-old and 7-year-old daughters.

Chandler changed his plea from not guilty to guilty in January. Now, he will have to wait even longer to be sentenced.

"It is very important to me, Mr. Chandler, that you be able to understand what's happening, to understand what I am saying, to know the materials that I had looked at prior to sentencing and to be able to participate in that sentencing if you want to. I'm not sure you can do that today," Judge Flowers said in court.

Chandler faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years to a maximum of life in prison.
