Stores Packed As People Prepare For Snow

It’s been a while since we’ve dealt with a big snow in Omaha, so a lot of people were out and about Wednesday before the storm hit those last minute items they need.

Outside the Hyvee on 51st and Center excitement is in the air for the first big snow of the season. A bell ringer sings, “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.”

Meanwhile, inside people are busy preparing. The essentials like bread and milk are flying off the shelves. “I want to stock my cupboards and be prepared for anything that happens,” said Charles Taucreti.

For Brooke Hancock her top priority is getting food for her kids. “I have a small car. I don’t get around easily in the snow, so if we are going to get snow and I’m going to have the kids home I need to be able to have stuff to feed them.”

Next door many people were filling up their gas tanks, preparing to dust off their snow blowers and fill them up. “I’m hoping it still works, I haven’t fired it up for a couple of years,” said Carol Resch.

Along with stocking up on food and gas people have also been shopping for the winter essentials, like snow boots, scarves, gloves, and hats. Also on people’s to do list, pick up snow scrapers, salt, and snow shovels. “I’m looking for a good strong one that will last,” said Susan Beebe.

4-year-old Kayden is out shopping with her Mom, but she has one thing on her mind, “Making a snowman.” A reminder that the snow can be more than just a chore, it can also mean having some fun too.
