State Treasurer Don Stenberg has fended off a challenge in the Nebraska Republican primary race.
Stenberg defeated Christopher Costello on Tuesday night. He will now face Democrat Michael O'Hara, a professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, in the November general election.
Stenberg was elected treasurer in 2010. He says he wants to continue looking for cost savings within the treasurer's office if elected to a second term.
Christopher Costello has worked in the Douglas County treasurer's office and now heads a bus company.
Libertarian Michael Knebel of Bellevue also is running. Knebel works as a broker who also educates active traders for TD Ameritrade.
