Chadron State Park is reopening after massive wildfires threatened the region.
Officials with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission say visitors can return to the park starting Friday. The fire burned a large number of trees and scorched ground vegetation, but it did not destroy any cabins or park buildings. The park closed late last week as the area was evacuated.
Crews are cleaning the cabins, and they should be available for rent early next week. Park officials say visitors with respiratory problems should be aware of possible air quality issues, especially if wind disturbs ash from the fire.
