Want a chance to show off or improve your spelling skills?
The Literacy Center for the Midlands will host the Fifth Annual Spelling BEE for adults on Thursday, September 20 at Hilton Omaha, 1001 Cass Street.
About 16% of the metro-Omaha population is illiterate. That’s 70,000 people who read below the 8th grade level. They cannot fill out a job application, understand a food label, or read to their children.
The Literacy Center assists hardworking individuals in acquiring the practical skills to become more active and contributing community members.
The Literacy Center is a non-profit organization that offers specialized programs dedicated to improving the life skills of its students.
Services, which are offered free of charge to students, are supported through generous donations, grants, and fund-raising special events including the Adult Spelling Bee.
The Adult Spelling Bee begins at 6 p.m. The cost is $75 for an individual ticket. Sign up a team of three to compete in the Spelling Bee. Team registration is $300 and space is limited.
