It was a special moment for Gretna High School senior Alex Lynch over the weekend. Alex may have a disability, but his friends rallied behind him and voted him prom king.

Hundreds of seniors walk the hallways of the high school every day, but there’s one in particular that stands out. “He’s super cool and he’s super friendly and everyone knows him,” said Jena Burns.

Burns is talking about her friend Alex. She is one of several students that work in his class as a TA, helping those with disabilities. As prom approached she had an idea.

“When I think of prom king I think of a really nice guy, gets along with everyone and that’s Alex in my mind,” said Jena.

She started campaigning, tweeting her friends and telling others to do the same. Word spread quickly and Alex made it on prom court. Then he got ready for the big night. “I picked out a blue suit,” said Alex.

Then the moment they’ve all been waiting for. Alex was named prom king. Video shows the look of pure joy on his face and he says that’s just what he was feeling. “I feel happy inside and joy.”

Burns said, “I had tears in my eyes and I was so happy, because I really wanted him to win."

They want to thank all the seniors for making this happen. "I appreciate every single person that had such a loving heart to do something like that,” said Liz Schmidt.

Alex said it meant a lot to him that everyone voted for him.
