Free Prom Dresses Get Celebration Started

Dozens of metro high school students received free prom dresses plus accessories Friday, thanks to members of the Junior League of Omaha, serving as fairy godmothers for a fourth straight year.

For some, going to prom is a chance to broaden the high school experience. “That was a first for me,” said Benson High School junior Angela Samson. “Usually, I'm not out there first because I'm shy and I'm not on the dance floor first. We don't have a lot of money so it's really cool that I could get a good dress for free."

"This is the first prom I've ever gone to so this is like a new experience to actually come here and be able to afford a dress," said Benson senior Kristine Marquiss. "They are paying for it and it's nice they are helping out the school."

The help of the Junior League's Cinderella's Closet certainly helps as the cost of prom for the average Midwestern family is $700.
