UPDATE: Police have reopened the South Omaha bridge to traffic on both sides.
Omaha Police tell WOWT 6 News a man was spotted on the bridge just after 5 a.m. Negotiators convinced him to step down from the bridge by 7:15 a.m. His identity has not yet been released. He was taken to the hospital for observation.
Reports indicate a man was standing on the edge of the bridge and threatening to jump. Authorities closed off traffic in both directions while police spoke with the man. As of 7:20 a.m., negotiations between that man and police were still ongoing.
Drivers are encouraged to use I-80 or I-480 as a detour to cross the Missouri River.
