It's been a knee-jerk reaction forever, now researchers have proven the cursing after slamming your fingers in the door stubbing your toe can actually make you feel better.
Researchers in the u-k recruited adults to submerge their hand in a bucket of cold water -- while cursing repeatedly -- for as long as they could stand.
They found participants could bear the pain much longer if they were swearing -- rather than saying a regular word. Their heart rates also went up.
Experts think cursing may activate the fight-or-flight response in the body -- which has been shown to dull the effects of pain.
Just make sure the kids aren't around when you let those four letter words fly!
