Some News Travels Fast

A heaping helping of humble pie served up by Bo Pelini today.

"I bust my butt each and every day for this program and for these kids and university and if I embarrassed anybody by what I did, I'm sorry," Pelini said.

Pelini apologized for his actions during Saturday night's Texas A&M game.

Pelini also said everything's fine between the coach and quarterback Taylor Martinez...this after Pelini's highly visible dressing down of the redshirt freshman.

News that Martinez quit the team spread quickly through social media Sunday.

"I just had Taylor Martinez shirts on twitter and like 20 new tweets would come up like every 15 seconds," Marcus Scheer of Cook, Nebraska said.

"Somebody posted a link to Bleacher Report I think that's what it was originally on but that's not like a really legitimate source," Rachel Sullivan of Hastings said.

"One of the kids that I met in my classes he posted on face book oh no, that's not true my friend just texted him so just as someone was saying it was true someone else was saying it wasn't true," student Nick Wolf said.

"It was really amazing that within two hours we went from hearing nothing about it to 'is Taylor Martinez leaving the team' and then everybody was panicking and two hours later everything was taken care of. So its amazing how fast everything works," Lukas Petersen of Minden, Nebraska said.

But students also said social media can present problems and that this misinformation could have made a bad situation worse, maybe even causing Martinez to actually leave.

As for Pelini's apologies?

That news did not move as quickly on social media. None of the students had heard of Pelini's apology.

Nick Wolf offers one reason why.

"A lot of the students they care a lot about their fellow student athletes and they kind of look up to them quite a bit so I would think it wouldn't be surprising that that would go a little bit faster," he said.

But just for the record, Bo Pelini really did apologize.

"If I embarrassed anybody by what I did I'm sorry," he said.

Maybe someone should tweet that.
