A semi with an over-sized load collided with a Dodge Durango Monday afternoon in southeastern Nebraska. The Gage County sheriff’s office notes that there was heavy smoke floating across the road at the time of the accident.
The crash was reported at 3:30 pm on Highway 77 and Osage Road. The driver of the Durango, 33-year-old Kristina Scheele of Marysville, Kansas was flown to Bryan LGH West in Lincoln. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The driver of the semi, 55-year-old Frank Lukach of Paris, Ontario Canada was not injured.
The sheriff says the heavy smoke was the result of a grass fire near the roadway. A burn permit had been issued for the fire.
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Springs Fire Department, Wymore Fire & Rescue, Beatrice Rescue, and Star Care all responded to the scene.
