A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Pawnee and Richardson counties in southeast Nebraska until 3 p.m. Thursday.
A farm family is concerned that the only road into their home is no longer safe because of a Union Pacific project.
The railroad paid for an easement on the farmer’s land to build a second track. Soil on an embankment next to the family’s access road partially sunk.
Landowner Jason Kubie said, “We’re concerned what if they build a retaining wall to stabilize the bank what is going to guarantee us that the wall will stay stable.”
Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis said,” We had a team come in that specializes in soil and give us some options on what we could do short term which has made the road safe for now and what long term items we need to take care of.”
